Dear Bernd.
The operation costs depend on whether you have to have one or both of your ears operated on. For children needing full anaesthesia, there are additional costs. Since the operation costs can change depending on the related costs I suggest you check the latest prices at www.merck-ecs.com or call us at +49 7531 915310.
Best regards

Hello,
Is there a comparison of costs between the traditional method and the stitch method? |

Dear Anonymous Guest,
A comparison between costs of the stitch method and traditional method shows that the stitch method is always cheaper. This is due to the fact that for the traditional method there are costs for the preliminary examination, the hospital stay and the check-up, in addition to the actual operation costs. Particularly the costs for the hospital add up to a large sum and make the traditional method expensive. These costs do not apply to the stitch method because it is an ambulant operation. A hospital stay is not necessary for patients operated with my method. They can return home right after the operation. The costs for a preliminary examination and a potential check-up are always included with the stitch method. Even the costs of a potentially necessary operation for protruding earlobes are always included, whereas they have to be paid additionally with the traditional methods.
Unfortunately, the statutory health insurances do not pay the operation costs anymore. In the beginning they did because they saw the high reduction of expenses the stitch method allowed. But when they noticed the high number of patients actually wanting an operation they stopped paying. Seems unreasonable. But on the other hand you have to understand that the health insurances can't be as generous as they used to be. With a private health insurance it was possible to have the whole operation paid for, too, but now they've started saving as well and only pay for parts of the operation with the stitch method.
By the way, if a patient does not get any refund from his health insurance and he has to have an additional operation afterwards (which really only happens in exceptional cases), he wouldn't have to pay the whole price for the operation, as would be customary with the traditional method. A patient would only have to pay a part of the costs; at the moment the amount is 180 Euros. You have to keep that in mind if you compare the costs of the traditional with the stitch methods.
The stitch method is of course the method that pays off most for a self-employed person as he/she is able to go back to work one day after the operation. There is no loss of earnings for several days as is the case with the traditional method.
