Hello Dr. Merck,
Just supposing there were complications, inflammations or similar, would it be easy to remove the threads?? Simply visit you and have the threads removed?
Thanks for your answer
Yours sincerely |

Dear Guest,
Yes indeed, the stitches can be taken out quickly and easily. I would have no problems finding them. But this is ? except for a very few cases ? not necessary. The thread can remain in the ear forever because it is made of Prolene, a material that is absolutely compatible with tissue. That is why it is also used for the stitching of vessels. You'll never see a vascular surgeon reopening a leg, chest or abdomen in order to take out stitches. They always leave the stitches in the vessel. A net made of Prolene is also used to close hernias; it stays in the tissue forever. This is why I can leave my stitches in the ear forever. The patient neither sees nor feels the stitches after the operation. There has never been a patient who wanted to have the stitches taken out (due to discomfort).
Should a very rare thread incompatibility occur and a thread rises to the surface, the stitches can be taken out very easily, quickly and without pain. They must be removed to prevent inflammation. If the ear protrudes again after the stitches have been taken out, you will receive new stitches in the ear, which will be placed a little deeper so that this would not happen again.
Best regards,
