Hello Dr. Merck,

I've read a lot of information about your method. You say that there are hardly any scars. But you also say that there are exterior stitches. There have to be scars after that, if only small ones, right?

Dear Peter S.

The superficial stitches lie hidden in a hollow behind the ear, at the spot adjoining the head. These stitches have to be taken out 10 to 14 days after the operation. They have nothing to do with the prolene threads that hold your ear in the new position. They do not result in scars because there are no large incisions as in traditional methods that have to be sewn up - only 2-3 mm long stitch points that are only made here during the operation. These have to be made to make room for the prolene thread knots, which must be invisibly sunk in the depths of the ear at these points. Afterwards you can only see these points under a magnifying glass. But, as I said, they are placed in a hollow so that they could not be seen even if they resulted in visible scars.
