Dear Dr. Merck!

I've got a question and I hope you can help me.
I would like to have an operation, but my mother is very cynical about the operation method. She thinks that there are too many swindlers in this area and that's why she advises me to have an operation with a traditional method. (she works as a hospital nurse).
I showed her your website, but I couldn't convince her of your method. She even got more insecure, because you write that one doesn't need a follow-up examination. Can you give me some advice how to convince her that the stitch method from Dr. Merck isn't a swindle? I mean a firm argument, that your method is a licenced method?

Thank you
Debora

Dear Debora,

I have an official certificate, documenting that my method is a legalised one. That is why children (if it is deemed necessary from the medical point of view) can have the operation covered by their insurances.
If you come to my practice, you can examine this document.

To remove any fears or doubts, I would recommend that you attend an informational discussion at our clinic.
This takes place every morning at 8.45 h with the patients scheduled for that day. Participation is free of charge and without obligation.
I'm sure your mother will be convinced when she learns of the concrete advantages of my method. If you come, she may also meet my nurse, whom I operated on 8 years ago. This nurse had the operation done on one ear, and today it is impossible to ascertain which was the operated ear. You may also take a look at the folder I have, filled with "thank-you-letters" and photos.
When I used to work with the traditional method (for 17 years), I did not receive a single "thank-you-letter", despite the fact that I was producing good results. With my new, minimally invasive procedure, however, I receive many thanks from patients who are glad to be spared the severe post-operative symptoms experienced after the traditional method.

It surprises me that your mother is disturbed by the absence of a follow-up examination. Patients normally are very happy about this, as it saves them travel costs. There is no need for a follow-up check up with my procedure simply because it is so non-invasive. Only tiny stitch-points remain which heal quickly. As the patient is able to co-determine the position of the ears during surgery with a hand-held mirror, he/she goes home with the ears he or she has always wanted.

If you would like to request a post-operative check up, this is of course possible, free of charge (I cannot, however, take over your additional flights/hotel expenses).

Kind regards,
Priv.Doz.Dr.med.W.Merck
