My son is only four years old. Can he already be operated on? Can any child be operated on? How many days do we have to allow for the operation? Razz

Dear Family Klein,

An operation with the Dr. Merck stitch method is actually possible for a child at the age of four. The rule, however, is that a child should be 5 or shortly before starting school. At this age and later, the operation is possible anytime for any child, and of course for any youth or adult.
The operation can be done with any child provided he/she is able to have anaesthesia. From the age of 12, there is no need for general anaesthesia as the operation is done with a local anaesthetic. As an exception, we have been able to operate with local anaesthesia only from the age of 8. But this is only possible if the child wants the operation. You only have to allow for one day: the day of the operation.

Best regards,

Priv.Doz.Dr.med.W.Merck
