Dear Ms. B.

I am certain that my stitch method will eventually replace all traditional methods and all doctors will operate on ears with it. The reason why this is not yet the case is:

1. Unfortunately a lot of colleagues are of the wrong opinion that behind the term stitch method stands the method which Mustardé described in the sixties. This method, however, is an open, invasive method and is not suitable for all ears.Consequently, some doctors are not interested in learning the method. The Dr. Merck stitch method has got nothing to do with this method (and it involves no reworking of the cartilage).

2. I only made my method public five years ago. After a huge media response in 2000 and in 2005, there was such a high demand for my operations that I did not have the time to go to a lot of conventions and to advertise my method. I am going to do this as soon as I've reached retirement age.

Best regards,
Priv.Doz.Dr.med.W.Merck
